Sure, I'm comfortable speaking in front of people in the classroom, but that's what I was trained to do. I'm a trained and experienced teacher, so the classroom is my safe space. And sure, I can encourage people with my words because I'm a writer. But attempting to inspire people face to face...that's challenging. Not because I don't believe in it, because I genuinely do. And not because I can't do it, because I can. It's because I'm an introvert, and I'm not used to being around large crowds. Also, the past six months, I've been working from home, so I'm a little rusty when it comes to events and such. Needless to say, I always find a way to shake the dust off when need be.
The Holidays in Harmony event in Crenshaw, California (this month) was one of the times that I shook the dust off and stepped into purpose. Shoutout to Queala--the host of the event--for letting me share my story. I appreciate your generosity.
That being said, feel free to watch the video of me speaking to vendors and guests at the event (below).
#WritingToSpeaking is another YouTube (video) series that highlights me taking my writing expertise to the next level, the speaking level. It is different from #ClassroomConversations because these speaking opportunities are not inside of a traditional classroom.
